Five reasons why you need a Business Plan!

What is a Business Plan?

A business plan is a written document that describes the business, its objectives, goals, strategies, the market it is in and its financial forecasts. It is vital document for every business, no matter how big or small and should be kept in an easily accessible place that allows it to be top of mind for both you and your team.

Why is it important to have a business plan?

The five reasons why we think it is crucial to have a business plan:

  1. Your business should provide you with what you want. The vision statement in your business plan allows you to think about where you want to be in 3 to 5 years in the future and then you should make sure that your businesses plan and vision is going to be able to supply you, with what you need to get to your own personal goals and vision.

  2. It gives your business a roadmap and a destination to work towards. This means that along the way when you have challenges, issues and things aren't going to go smoothly, that's just being in business. But what you can do, is if you know where you're ending up in the future you can make decisions based on that and you can negotiate and re-navigate around these issues and get towards the goal.

  3. If you've got a clear vision and you can get the buy-in from your employees and other stakeholders they're going to have a sense of purpose and they're going to be more motivated in the business to help you. They're not going to feel like they're just here and they just turn up every day to make the boss a dollar, they're going to feel like they're part of something bigger and they're really helping make a difference.

  4. Financial and investment opportunities may be required from time to time to grow your business or even get it through a quiet patch. If you've got a vision and a plan for the future, you are much more likely to secure investment or funding from the bank.

  5. If anything were to happen to you or any of the other key people within your business then there is a plan and there is a framework so that the rest of the team or anyone new coming into the business can slot right in and carry on working towards the business vision and the plan.
